1.) During software installation (MP/RW5240A Intervideo Cinema) I always see the error message " Error in ... Kernel.exe ..." .
This error message occurs during installation under Win98/ME, please proceed as follows:
- access the installation software with Windows Explorer
- in the folder Cinema \ Disc Master Setup.exe -- \WIN DVD Creator --\DVD Copy (only limited under 98/ME) --\WIN DVD Recorder (limited running under 98/ME)
- use the following serial numbers:
[WinDVD Recorder]
S/N: JT8X0YVTSUA83K1
[WinDVD Creator]
S/N: GLHZ4VDS8SWJO2Q
[DVDCopy]
S/N: C4MVSWR5BBE57VX
[DiscMaster]
S/N: 1QPXYP9RQ5IDOZB
2.) When installing the software (MP5240A-SK) the error message - "You have specified an incorrect serial number" always appears. What should I do?
You probably entered the serial number of the drive. Please use the serial number that is on the software CD.
3.) Where do I find firmware for Ricoh CD and DVD burners and what do I need to note during the installation?
http://www.ricohpmmc.com ->>Support->>Download->>CD/DVD burners
Please update the burner's firmware only if a problem with the burner cannot be solved generally.
If you would like to use different burning software than was included with the drive, please ask the software publisher in advance whether it is compatible. A firmware update will not establish compatibility with third-party software.
The firmware updates function only with the retail and bulk versions of our DVD burners; they do not work with OEM versions on a complete system.
(exception : RW8160A and RW8165A). Please contact the OEM manufacturer - dealer.
If the firmware update is not carried out correctly or the power supply is interrupted during the update, the drive can be rendered unusable.
Please switch the PC off for approx. 20 seconds. In many cases, the drive will appear after the restart with the old drive designation.
The use of modified firmware causes an immediate violation of the warranty.
4.) When I try to carry out the firmware update, I always see an error message (cannot update for different Typecode - NG*NG*NG).
You probably loaded the incorrect firmware file. Please check this by starting Rflash.exe. On the right next to "target drive," you can see the correct drive designation. On the bottom right next to "source file" you can see whether the firmware file is for RWxxxxx or MPxxxx drives.
5.) Why are some media not recognized by the burner and they cannot be written correctly (error messages : Illegal Medium, Medium Error, Power Calibration Error ... etc.)?
The burner checks the medium using an internal table. If the medium is not listed there, it is (if it corresponds to standard specifications) it is not recognized as a standard medium or in some cases unfortunately not at all.
Our burners are designed for the best possible quality; naturally this also affects the media. If a firmware update (which to date could contain new or "no name" media that meet the specifications) does not help, then there is no other possibility than to use other media (compatibility list).
If other recommended media do not help, then there may be a technical defect. Please return the drive to your dealer.
6.) Created DVDs cannot be played back on my stand-alone player. Why is this?
Please check whether the device is compatible with the DVD_R/+RW/-R/-RW standard (manufacturer).
Please check whether the medium was fixed.
Please check whether the burner software supports the UDF standard 1.02. DVD media that were formatted with UDF 1.50 are not DVD video-compatible. Please use only recommended media.
7.) General burning error ("Blue Screen", "Lead Out Error", "Burner drive not recognized", system hangs after restart. . .).
What can I do ?
- the burner should be connected to the second IDE port as the master drive
- so-called "Fast ATA controllers" can cause problems in certain configurations
- for the stability of the system, update the motherboard drivers (Internet page of the PC or motherboard manufacturer).
If this does not improve things, the standard IDE drives for Windows can also be used
- please install the "premastering software" such as Nero, WinOnCD, Diskmaster before installing the burner drive
- avoid the installation of additional premastering software. Under certain circumstances, this can cause driver conflicts
- the ASPI layer should also be updated. Free versions are available on software suppliers' Internet pages or
alternatively from Adaptec (www.adaptec.com)
- please use recommended media
8.) Can I write DVD+R DL (Dual Layer) media (DVD9) with 8.7 GB?
MP5120A, RW5120A, MP5125A, RW5125A, MP5163A, MP5240A, RW5240A, MP5308DA cannot write DVD +R DL media.
MP5316AD can write DVD+R DL media.
9.) Read speed is too slow. Why is this?
Please check whether the DMA mode for the drive (bus) is activated.
A driver update of the IDE motherboard driver can also help (motherboard drivers are usually available on the PC or motherboard manufacturer's Internet page).
