The world's first CD-RW disc "CDRW 74
10X" for 4x to 10x speed writing
Introducing the High Speed CD-RW Disc "CDRW 74 10X" which is
a compilation of the technology of RICOH - the pioneer and leading manufacturer
of CD-RW discs. "CDRW 74 10X" conforms to the Orange Book Part
III Volume 2 V1.0, the standard for High Speed CD-RW.
Handles
high speed writing by using RICOH-Developed Ag-In-Sb-Te phase
change recording material for CD-RW discs and optimizing film
thickness of the recording materials, thus making it the
world's first High Speed CD-RW disc conform to the latest standards.
Writing
and rewriting are both possible from 4x to 10x speedson the
High Speed CD-RW drive, 2.5 times faster than the current
CD-RW systems. Further improves convenience as a medium
for writing large data files.
Written
data can be read by conventional CD-R/RW drives, MultiRead
CD-ROM drives,DVD-ROM drives and DVD-RAM drives thus ensuring
high compatibility.

*1 If you
try to write on High Speed CD-RW disc with existing 1x2x4x
CD-RW drives, some error messages will appear and the drives
can not write, Error messages are like the follows,
- OPC error
- Reported error from the recorder
- SCSI error; wrong SCSI command was issued
- ISO image was not written on the CD
*2 Some drives can not read High Speed CD-RW
disc. Please refer to the drive manufacturer for further information.
Wide power
margin design for writing and rewriting from 4x to 10x speeds.
Compatible
with CAV writing*, when available, that enables high speed
random access as well as the currentCLV writing. Further
improves floppy disc-like operability. Highly reliable
design that can withstand repeated overwriting at all writing
speeds.
* Drive must be compatible with CAV writing mode.

Limit of the Orange Book specification
Black:Initially written Violet:After the 1st rewriting Red:After
1000 times of rewriting |
When the value is high, it would result in read error with higher
possibility. Therefore, it is important to lower the value for
the data reliability. Is the time fluctuation of the mark position
or length and originated from various factors, such as drives,
environment and media. One of the causes due to media comes from
the residual marks in rewriting. When a blank disc is considered,
the recording material is homogeneous because it is in the 'erased
state' all over the surface. When a disc is written initially,
therefore, the jitter value would be naturally low. But in the
second writing time or in the first rewriting time, the jitter
value would be increased, especially in the case of the media with
poor erasability. The low jitter after the first rewriting is essential
in terms of the data reliability, since it is more likely to happen
for any kind of users, regardless of the writing software. RICOH
High Speed CD-RW dics shows low jitter value with good margin against
the specification in wide range of write power in any write speed,
as shown in the charts above. Experience high speed writing with
highly reliable RICOH High Speed CD-RW dics!

This is the disc
that will enable you in the future to write and rewrite using High
Speed CD-RW drives that are available from major drive manufacturer.
Use after verifying that your drive is compatible with High Speed
CD-RW. High Speed CD-RW drives have the High Speed CD-RWlogo on
the left(1). Writing and rewriting can not be done with existing
1x2x4 CD-R/RW drives, which have the logo on the left(2), but not
the logo(1). |
Explanation
of terms
Ag-In-Sb-Te:
Ag-In-Sb-Te: RICOH-Developed phase change recording material:
Composed of the four elements of Ag-In-Sb-Te (Silver, indium, antinomy,
tellurium). It has the characteristics of high sensitivity against laser
power high mark length controllability and high erasability.
CLV mode: Constant Linear Velocity:
A method of accessing to the write position by changing the number of rotations
per time depending on the write position of the disc. General method for
writing CD-R/RW disc.
CAV mode: Constant Angular Velocity:
Advantageous for access speed because of the constant rotation speed. General
method of reading CD-R/RW and CD-ROM discs on.
Jitter:
Time fluctuation of the pit position. High jitter value would result in
read error.
